Laser Pointer for sale usa

From a pilot's perspective, the blinding light of a green or High power green laser pointers beam looks more like a floodlight, than a laser.Sgt. Scott May of Lexington Police's helicopter unit, Air One, described it like looking into bright headlights or staring into a bright camera flash. "You get that spot in your eyes."

Lexington's police helicopter has been victim to multiple Laser beam incidents over the past few years.

May said when a 50mw Green Laser beam hit any aircraft's windshield, it could cause the pilot to suffer from a period of momentary blindness, May said. "Some pilots have reported that [they got] that spot in your eyes where you can't see anything for up to 30 seconds," May said. "That's a long time for an airplane on final approach."

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, in 2013 there were nearly 4,000 laser incidents reported nationwide. Of those 4,000, the FAA said there were 99 in Kentucky and 14 in Lexington's airspace.

"It's very dangerous. When a Laser Pointer for sale is pointed into an aircraft it basically lights up the cockpit and essentially blinds the pilot, Chief Division Counsel of Kentucky's FBI Lisa Trotman said. "Briefly, but you could imagine in that scenario how dangerous that could be."

According to Lexington Police's helicopter unit, people usually don't realize how powerful the laser can be. "I know here in Lexington, we've had an aircraft report a laser and they found it 2.5 miles away," May said. "If people are curious about how far those lasers will go, I promise you it will go further than you would possibly need it to."

The 3000mw Green Laser behind these sightings are legal, the FBI said. But only for their intended purpose. The FBI said if you use it the wrong way, you could be facing up to 20 years in jail and fines upwards to $250,000."The law was written with the severity of the activity in mind," Trotman said.

Johnny Quenga, 28, was arrested for the felony offense. Officers say he purposefully tried to obscure the pilot's vision by repeatedly pointing a laser into the cockpit.

The pilot of Air Unit 1 saw flashes of green Thursday night. The officer zoomed in for a better look only to get blinded by the laser again.

"It went into the cockpit and then he kept doing it. He knew the helicopter, knew what he was doing, and then he kept doing it," said Lt. Joe Gomez with the Fresno Police Department.

The suspect, Johnny Quenga, was using an airsoft gun with a laser on the end. Police say it's a felony to obscure the pilot's vision with a laser pointer and in some cases can cause them to crash. And as police units were driving toward the suspect, a patrol car was struck by a truck.

The impact of the crash seriously hurt the officer in the passenger seat, who had to go into emergency surgery Friday. The driver was also injured.

"The impact of that collision knocked him out. He lost some teeth; I guess his teeth were broken in the crash," said Gomez.

It's unclear who caused the car crash at the intersection of Herndon and Blackstone, and investigators are hoping to piece together the answers by using surveillance footage.

"American cops, they are hurt more in accidents than by guns or knives; that's a known fact for many, many years," said Gomez.

Passengers in the other car only had minor injuries and are cooperating with police. Meanwhile, the laser-pointing suspect is in jail.

A close friend of the injured officer tells Action News he's going to be OK, but he faces a long road of recovery because of his injuries. The officer who was driving was treated and released.

laser pointer pen are dangerous to air crews as a result of glare, including after-image, flash blindness or temporary loss of night vision, Mosley said."If a pilot was blinded, you could be putting their lives at risk," he said.

Pointing a Ultra Powerful Laser Pointer into a cockpit is a federal crime that carries a maximum of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.Andy Danziger, a retired airline captain, told The Post that he also was targeted by a laser a few years ago as he was approaching Kuwait in a Boeing 767.

"Thankfully, it didn't hit our eyes. You duck and look away from the windows when it happens," he said. "It can be deadly dangerous – you can go blind. The last thing you need is getting hit when you're close to landing. It's a huge problem now."
